COPYWRITING AND EDITORIAL: VIDEO SCRIPT

Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport is the preferred national and international aviation hub for the Midlands. Keen to cement its links as the 'Midlands' gateway to the world', the airport carried 13 million passengers a year at the time that this project was carried out (in 2019 while I worked as a copywriter at RBH Creative Communications Ltd). By 2023, Birmingham Airport expects to be handling around 18 million passengers annually.

Challenge

Birmingham Airport was about to turn 80 and to celebrate this milestone birthday, I was tasked with writing the script for a brand film to be shared across social channels.

Approach

After the client dug through their archives and appealed to Brummies, I had plenty of photos and stories to inspire the brand film. I used rhythm and rhyme to detail some of the airport's most memorable moments. From its grand opening by the Duchess of Kent back in 1939 as Elmdon Airport, through to hosting the world's largest passenger jet in 2009, flying daily to Dubai.

Results

I playfully used language to create lyricality and a sense of storytellin, truly bringing passengers' memories of Birmingham Airport to life. My script underpinned the video's art direction and videography, with a 'book of memories' being used to visually tell the airport's key stories.
